They look like Triangles!

An interesting quilt to make - I have a fascination with Half Square Triangles and the Easy 8 method..... so I started to play with my EQ software and HST's.

Its all half square triangles

..... the rest of the story

I am trying to use up fabric from my stash. I started with the purple butterflies, then chose the lighter lavender colour. Too much in that colour range would have swamped the butterfly fabric...... so what would contrast, yet allow the butterflies to be the focus colour?

Just one splash of colour

I decided I wanted softer colours for the contrast and in my stash...... there was the white and grey fabrics! I liked the combination, especially with the lavender thrown in as well.

It is very important to be happy with the colours you have chosen. They may not be everyone's choice, but that is ok, you can not please everyone, nor should you try, unless you are making a quilt on commission for a customer, it is your quilt and your choice of colours.

The layout of the quilt was designed in my EQ software. I wanted to work solely with HST's and 3" finished HST's specifically, as I like that size, it is easier to work with that 2.5". I played with layouts and colours in EQ until I felt satisfied that I had an interesting design.

Half square triangles, a great technique for quilt piecing, many options for playing with colour

Here are some alternative layouts that I was considering.

contrast the direction of the blocks, still all half square triangles, but changing direction makes it interesting.
Lots of fun using colour in your quilts.
A beautiful baby quilt

The block design itself is quite simple in that they are all 3" (finished) HST.

The layout and the colours are what makes the design.

Determine your colours, work out the layout, sew, border, quilt, bind and enjoy.

The size of this quilt is approximately 38" square.

The fun is had choosing the colours! go bright! go subtle! the choice is yours
