Colour My Quilt!

Behind the scenes of creating a colouring book for quilters.....

It is finally ready........ just one of those projects you think up in the middle of the night, well 2:30am actually...... Not sure why it came to mind then, at that precise moment, but it did and..... well, you can just imagine the rest........

As those who know me well, know, I love colour. I love playing with fabrics to see how well they play together, how they complement or contrast each other, how when you add white, grey or black, they change their tune.... Over the years I have found the best medium for me to explore and play with colour is quilting.

I am enjoying creating my own designs, taking risks with colour and just going with it, to see what happens..... some are just amazing, some not so, but all with a story to tell.

According to many people I talk with, colour does not always come so easily to everyone, which is why I created "Colour My Quilt - A Colouring book with a quilter's heart". It is a way of exploring colour theory, experimenting freely, with some information about colour and lots of quilt and block designs to colour in any way you wish. There are no rights or wrongs...... just opportunity and information.

Putting it together has been interesting and fun. I wanted some colour theory - but not too much as that is overwhelming. I wanted plenty of quilt and block designs that could be coloured in, and I wanted some light relief in there as well, so that it wasn't all same again on each page. Hopefully I have achieved that.

I decided to make it available as both hard copy (coil bound A4) and digital download for printing on your own device. The digital download (pdf) is also iPad compatible with Apple Pencil.

I had lots of fun with Sage (my Avatar) and her thoughts and whispers. I actually learnt things myself about how to best layout the colour theory section, without it being overwhelming. I learnt a lot about 'copyright', 'licensing' of images for books, and as a consequence, about generating my own images, scene setting in some incredibly innovative software, and much more. I am printing and binding the books myself..... so that process was also part of the journey.... well it is all part of that larger journey, isn't it.

Of course I had lots of fun creating the quilt designs..... my favourite is "Whispers from the Heart" which I will start making this weekend - I am using batik fabric and will be making the pattern available sometime soon in my digital download shop on my oneloosethread.com.au website. The shops are in the "Learn the Craft" section.

This book is for anyone who loves to colour, it is for beginner quilters who are not quite ready to just go with it and create a quilt, it is for any level of quilter who wants to experiment, or as part of their own journey, looking for an extra resource.

A sneak peak at a couple of the pages.......

There are a couple of restrictions unfortunately that might affect you depending on where in the world you are reading this blog from. The physical printed colouring book is currently available to Australian residents only. Digital downloads may be restricted in some countries due to international digital goods tax regulations including the UK and EU. We apologise for any inconvenience and are working to expand availability in the future. There are blocks in place on my website for those reasons, please respect that.

This little book surprised me, I hope it surprises you too. However you choose to colour, find a quiet corner and let the dreaming begin because your next quilt it waiting to tell you what it wants to be.

With a smile,
